Fireplaces seem to be all the rage this year. This is exemplified by a recent post by one of our friends out of Phoenix who does amazing work with glass tile. Luke Denny from Alpentile (www.alpentile.com) does some absolutely stunning work with Oceanside Glass and we are proud to be able to show some of their work here.

Porcelanosa USA New Tile Collections

These are the newest collections to come out of Porcelanosa USA and they are sure to be a big success in the New Year. The beautiful combinations of both floor and wall tiles are sure to make any installation the highlight of your home. The Recife Collection comes with a 24”x24” floor tile, 12”x35” wall tile, and a 12”x35” mosaico wall tile that is available in three marvelous colors; Anthracita, Gris, and Pulpis. The Recife Mosaico looks absolutely stunning when fully installed as you can see from the pictures below. One of my favorite tiles from the new collection is the Ona Beige and Ona Natural which has the look and feeling of running water and three-dimensionality. The Ona Series is very similar in look to the Artistic Tile Ambra collection but has the advantage of being a ceramic tile, requiring less care and maintenance. The Treviso Black is a very nice combination of whites, blacks, and greys to give the tile a very nice timeless appeal similar to that of a Bianco Carrara. I can picture many of our customers using a combination of Bianco Carrara on the floor of a bathroom with the Treviso Black used as the wall tile. Encore Ceramics Bravo & Fortuna Collection

We have recently added a great addition to our showroom with the arrival of the Encore Ceramics Bravo and Fortuna Series. The Bravo Series from Encore Ceramics is made up of beautiful pastel colors that are sure to make any installation pop and stand out. The Bravo Series has several mosaics ranging from 5/8”x5/8” to miniature herringbones. The majority of the Bravo Collection is in stock and ready to ship with Encore Ceramics quick-ship program. The idea of getting Encore Ceramics in under a week is absolutely delightful to all of our customers. The Fortuna Series from Encore Ceramics is made up of several new shapes and sizes including Hexagons, Penny Rounds, Miniature Rhomboids, and my absolute favorite wave shaped mosaic. Glass Tile in Pool with Slot Drains

This is a great article on how slot drains for pools can now be made to be concealed on the pool bottom as opposed to heavily apparent. Many of our customers when they are constructing pools and even showers are looking for the best ways to conceal the draining system in their application. Schluter-Systems has recently come out with the Kerdi-Line linear drain which is perfect for curbless showers or anyone building a shower and looking to conceal their drain. The Kerdi-Line from Schluter-Systems comes in a variety of grates which makes it extremely easy to pick one that best fits your installation.

In this article, Skip Phillips is describing the years of experimentation in creating a drain system that looks almost hidden and un-noticeable on a pool or spa bottom. For many customers who are building full clad pools of glass mosaics, nothing is worse than having a draining system apparent in the middle of the pool or at the bottom of a spa. This is an even bigger issue with some tiles which are lighter in color, making the drain more visible on the pool bottom. Many glass tile manufacturers offer a wide variety of trim pieces for their glass tile but none so far have come out with any materials for grates and drains. Oceanside glass tile is an amazing tile company when it comes to glass tile for pool installations, or any submerged installation. Their wide color palette makes it easy and enjoyable to create custom blends and mosaics for pool and spa installations. I think that Skip has a great idea going with this new draining system that should revolutionize the industry. World renowned pool installer Greg Andrews has experiment with systems like these as well, for his customers are always looking for their drains to be hidden among their beautiful glass tile. Greg is continually expanding his knowledge base by attending tile forums and installation seminars and explaining his methodology on the importance of properly setting and installing glass tile. He recently presented his findings at the Total Solutions Seminar in Phoenix, Arizona.

It is very important to properly install glass tile in a pool in order to prevent any issues in the future, such as cracking or failure. These are our beautiful new displays from Artistic Tile that are now available in our showroom. These gorgeous panels are extraordinary in showing how these mosaics are truly works of art. Artistic Tile has a wide range of glass tile, glass mosaics, marble tile, porcelain tile, and a wide variety of water-jet mosaics. Artistic Tile is known for their hand-carved Ambra Tile which comes in a variety of colors and available in both 12×12 and 24×24. The most popular color of the Ambra Tile for our company is the Moss Green 12×12 which is displayed in our vignette. Trowel and Error, proper tile installation

We are always getting customers coming into the store with pieces of tile in their hands that are either chipped, broken, or have completely came off their installation. The majority of the time the biggest issue at hand is that the tile was improperly set from the beginning. One of the largest issues that arises with tiles that were improperly installed is the issue of coverage. Coverage comes down to how much thinset bonded with the tile and how much of it achieved proper bondage. All tiles, especially newer porcelains have the ability to have a long lasting life in your home if properly installed. This is why it is very important for you to have a licensed contractor install your material. This will insure that your installer is properly bonded, licensed and aware of the proper methods of installations. This video, even though dated, is still extremely relevant to proper tile installation methods that are required to get the proper bonding with a tile and the thinset used.

Oceanside Glass Tile with Beveled Ceramic and Veincut Travertine

This is an absolutely stunning bathroom that looks night and day from its initial state. This bathroom was a typical one built in the 1970’s that used the same carpet from the bedroom all the way into the bathroom. The original tile in this shower was a 4×4 white ceramic tile from Dal Tile and a brown porcelain tile for the floor. The countertop in this bathroom was a 12×12 Crema Marfil marble. The customer decided to go with a modern appeal in their design and went with a 12×24 Vein-Cut Travertine in the Kona Brown Color. This travertine looks absolutely stunning installed on this bathroom floor with its vertical lines that makes the bathroom have an extended look . The travertine was sealed with Stain Proof penetrating sealer from Dry Treat. Dry Treat sealers make some of the best penetrating sealers for natural stones for not only do they penetrate the material but they also allow it to breathe. For the walls, the customer opted for a thick beveled ceramic tile in a cream color by Cobsa USA. This is very similar to the Beveled Ceramic tiles that ADEX and Tile Shop manufacturer as well. Beveled Subway tile has become increasingly popular in renovated bathrooms for their timeless look continues to stun years after installation. The customer decided to add some more color to this installation by utilizing the amazing color palette and mosaic options from Oceanside Glass Tile. The customer chose the Entice Blend from Oceanside Glass Tile for their shower bench and the shower floor as well. I love how they used the glass tile and mosaic in their niches as well. Little touches like these are sure to make your bathroom standout from most others. One of the beauties of using Oceanside glass tile is that they are completely compatible for all submerged installations including pools. The entire project was installed with Laticrete Almond Grout and their special glass tile thinset. Laticrete offers amazing mortars for glass tile that are not only non-sag but also extremely white. This entire bathroom turned out undeniably gorgeous with the beautiful color tones of the vein-cut travertine along with the glass tile mosaics from Oceanside Glass.

Porcelain Tile Floor with Antique Copper Tile Backsplash

This is a recent kitchen remodel that turned out absolutely stunning. The customer chose a beautiful Italian Porcelain tile for their floor in both 18×18 and 12×12. The pattern that they chose is perfect for this kitchen for it gives it a nice expansive feel without making the room look small. The floor was installed with Custom Building Products Versabond White Thinset. We are always happy to sell Custom Building Products for their superior quality is great for installing porcelain tiles such as these on a kitchen floor. For the backsplash, the customer went with the antique copper metal tile in various sizes. The color contrast with the antique copper tile and the black porcelain tile makes this kitchens backsplash perfect. The customer opted for the 3×6 antique copper subway tile and a decorative border of the 1×4 antique copper tile mosaic. I love the color of the antique copper for it really gives this kitchen a nice clean modern look with a great quality metal tile. Metal tile has become very popular in today’s design scheme, especially in the antique copper finish. The customer decided to go with the custom building products Summer Wheat Non-sanded grout for its neutral color and clean appearance for the whole scheme.
